    Troubleshooting

Why does my Festa oven take multiple attempts to ignite?

Multiple attempts on first ignition are completely normal. The gas line needs to purge any air before propane reaches the burner consistently. After the first successful use, ignition becomes much more reliable.

Why is the flame orange or yellow instead of blue?

This is expected behavior. At low temperatures and during startup, you'll often see a more orange/yellow tint to the flame as the burner and surrounding components are still cold. As the oven heats up and combustion stabilizes, the flame shifts to a cleaner blue. This simply reflects the burner reaching its optimal operating temperature and air-fuel mixture — nothing to be concerned about.

Why does the flame keep going out during warm-up?

This can happen during initial use, especially in the first few firings. Ensure the tank valve is fully open and operate the oven in a location protected from wind. The flame can blow out if it's windy outside, especially if the burner is set to mid or low. If the flame continues to go out after a few more uses, contact our support team at (866) 792-7789 or support@festapizzaco.com. Most customers find this resolves on its own after the oven has been seasoned with a couple of heat cycles.

Why is there condensation inside my thermometer?

This is a known phenomenon, particularly with ovens stored outdoors. Moisture can collect inside the thermometer glass due to temperature differentials between day and night. In nearly all cases, this dissipates completely once the oven reaches operating temperature and the heat drives the moisture out. Run the oven through a full heat cycle and you should see it clear up. If condensation persists after several uses, contact us and we'll make it right.

How do I ignite the Festa oven burners?

Start the stone rotation first by pressing the button between the two knobs. Then ignite the top burner (right knob) first — push in the knob to engage the auto-spark ignitor, turn to High, and hold for about 10 seconds until the flame is stable. Then repeat with the left knob for the bottom burner. If a burner doesn't ignite within 5 seconds, turn the knob to OFF and wait 5 minutes before trying again.

What do I do if my Festa oven burner won't light?

Check these possible causes and solutions:

    • Empty tank — Check gas level
    • No battery — Add 1 AA battery to the igniter chamber
    • Clogged burner — Clean the burner ports
    • Faulty igniter — Try manual lighting (see manual lighting instructions)
    • Igniter not sparking — Replace the battery or clean the electrode tip
    • Igniter tip too far from burner — Adjust the tip closer to the burner
    • Loose wire — Reconnect the ground wire

If you're still having trouble, contact support at (866) 792-7789.

Why is my Festa oven flame weak or yellow?

A weak or yellow flame typically indicates an air/gas imbalance, a dirty burner, or low gas pressure. Clean the burner ports, check that the regulator is properly connected, and ensure the propane tank has adequate fuel. Note that the bottom burner flame naturally changes from blue to yellow/orange after about 2 minutes — this is normal.

Why is my pizza stone not spinning?

    Check for these issues:

    • No power — Verify the AC adapter is plugged in or batteries are installed
    • Dead batteries — Replace the 4 AA batteries
    • Obstructed tray — Clear any debris around the turntable
    • Motor button — Press the stone rotation button (located between the two burner knobs)

As a temporary workaround, manually rotate the pizza every 20–30 seconds until the issue is resolved.

Why is my pizza sticking to the stone or screen?

    Common causes and solutions:

    • Under-floured dough — Use more flour or semolina on the peel and dough
    • Cold stone — Ensure the stone is fully preheated before cooking
    • Wet toppings — Pat down wet toppings and avoid adding sauce to thin spots
    • Unseasoned screen — Season the screen to build up a non-stick coating
    • Timing — Don't place pizza on the screen until you're ready to cook. You can also take the pizza off the screen midway through cooking and let it finish directly on the stone.

My pizza stone cracked — what happened?

Pizza stones crack from water contact when hot or sudden temperature changes. Never pour water on a hot stone and always let the stone cool naturally. If your stone cracks, contact support at (866) 792-7789 — cracked or damaged stones are covered under warranty if reported immediately.

Why does my flame go out mid-cook?

This is typically caused by wind, low gas flow, or blocked vents. Use a wind guard or reposition the oven to a more sheltered location. Check that the gas valve is fully open and that all air paths are clear. If the issue persists, contact support at (866) 792-7789.

My oven is not reaching the desired temperature — what should I do?

Check for wind exposure and use a wind break if needed. Make sure both burners are set to high during preheat. Allow more preheat time — reaching 750°F+ may take longer in cold or windy conditions. Ensure the minimum ambient operating temperature of 14°F (–10°C) is met.

How do I manually light the Festa oven?

If the auto-spark igniter isn't working:

    1. Prepare a flame source — Use a long-reach match, grill lighter, or the provided matchstick holder
    2. Light the bottom burner first — Insert the lit match through the front opening toward the bottom burner (left side). Slowly turn on gas using the "BOT" knob
    3. Light the top burner — Once the bottom burner is lit, slowly turn on the "TOP" knob. The top burner should ignite from the bottom burner's flame — no additional flame source needed

Warning: Never attempt to light the top burner directly. If you smell gas at any point, shut off the gas supply immediately and ventilate the area.

Why is my ignitor not sparking?

The battery may be dead or incorrectly installed. Replace the AA battery in the ignition module, ensuring correct polarity. Also check that the ignitor wire is properly connected.

Why is my pizza cooking unevenly?

Rotate the pizza and adjust top and bottom burners for balanced heat. If using the rotating stone, ensure it is spinning properly. Uneven heat can also result from not preheating long enough.

    02.

    Performance & Cooking

What is the maximum temperature the Festa oven can reach?

The oven reaches up to 1000°F (538°C), ideal for Neapolitan-style pizza and other high-heat cooking.

How long does it take to cook a pizza in the Festa oven?

Bake time depends on your dough, toppings, and oven temperature. Typical times by style:

    • Neapolitan-style pizzas: 1–2 minutes
    • New York–style pizzas: 3–4 minutes
    • Detroit (pan)–style pizzas: 10–12 minutes

Does the Festa oven cook evenly?

Yes. The oven features a rotating 16" cordierite stone which promotes even heat distribution and consistent results.

Can I use the Festa oven for foods other than pizza?

Absolutely! It's great for baking bread, roasting vegetables, cooking meats, and even desserts.

What are the distinguishing features of the Festa Pizza Oven?

The Festa Pizza Oven includes several unique features:

    • Two independently controlled burners (above and below the stone)
    • A rotating 16" cordierite stone for even cooking
    • Spacious enough to cook large New York–style pizzas
    • Built-in temperature gauge calibrated to read the temperature of the oven and stone accurately between 750–850°F
    • The essentials bundle includes a pizza screen, essential for beginners to have success
    • Can be fueled by natural gas with a NG conversion kit

How do I control the temperature on the Festa oven?

The oven features two independently controlled burners (above and below the stone) for faster heating and precision temperature adjustments during baking.

How much space does the Festa oven take up?

The oven measures approximately 21.25 inches in diameter × 15 inches in height, ideal for patios, balconies, and outdoor kitchens.

    Is the Festa oven portable?

It weighs approximately 44.75 lbs (20.3 kg) and is easy to move.

How long does the Festa oven take to preheat?

The oven typically heats to 750°F in about 15 minutes with both burners set to high and an outdoor temperature of 75°F. Preheat time will vary depending on burner settings and surrounding temperature conditions.

Why should the stone be rotating before I ignite the burners?

It is essential to keep the pizza stone rotating when the bottom burner is ignited. Failure to do so can result in uneven heating and inconsistent cooking temperatures across the stone surface.

How do I read the temperature gauge on the Festa oven?

The temperature gauge has three zones:

    • Green Zone (750–850°F): Target range — the gauge gives the most accurate combined reading of oven air and stone temperature here.
    • Red Zone: The gauge may overestimate the actual stone temperature.
    • Blue Zone: The gauge may underestimate the stone's true temperature.

For best accuracy, use an infrared thermometer (laser temp gun) to measure the stone surface directly.

What are the cook times for different pizza styles in the Festa oven?

Here are the ideal temperatures and cook times by pizza style:

    | Style | Temperature | Cook Time | |---|---|---| | Neapolitan | 850–950°F | 60–90 seconds | | New York | 750–850°F | 3–5 minutes | | Thin Crust (Tavern) | 550–650°F | 5–7 minutes | | Sicilian / Detroit | 500–600°F | 10–15 minutes | | Chicago Deep Dish | 425–475°F | 25–35 minutes |

How do I confirm the bottom burner is lit?

Look for a visible flame radiating near the left side of the pizza rail guard inside the oven. Unlike the blue flame on the top burner, the bottom flame will change from blue to yellow/orange after about 2 minutes, making it easier to identify.

How do I clean the pizza stone?

Never use water on a hot stone — it can crack. Do not soak or use soap on the stone at any time. After the stone has cooled completely, use a dry brush or gentle scraper to remove debris. For deep cleaning, heat the oven to maximum temperature to burn off baked-on residue.

What are the technical specifications of the Festa oven?

    | Feature | Specification | |---|---| | Model | FPO-BB5000 | | Gas Type | Propane (LPG) | | Top Burner | Cast Iron, 16,500 BTU/HR | | Bottom Burner | Stainless Steel, 3,200 BTU/HR | | Max Temperature | 950°F (500°C) | | Cooking Capacity | Up to 16" pizzas | | Dimensions | 21.25" × 22" × 15.25" | | Weight | 44.75 lbs (20.3 kg) | | Min Clearance | 36" all sides | | Min Ambient Temp | 14°F (–10°C) |

The rotating stone can be powered by the included AC adapter (120V/60Hz) or 4 AA batteries.

How many BTUs does the Festa Oven have?

Main burner: 4.84KW (16,500 BTU). Max output: 4.84KW (16,500 BTU). Mid setting: approximately 2.42KW (8,250 BTU). The dual-burner system provides powerful, controllable heat.

What comes in the box with the Festa oven?

The oven body, 16" pizza stone, pizza screen, pizza peel, pizza cutter, support feet, gas regulator, AC adapter, and user manual are all included.

What is not included in the box?

A 20 lb (9 kg) LPG propane tank and AA batteries are not included. You will need to purchase these separately before your first use.

    03.

    Setup & Fuel

What fuel types does the Festa oven support?

The oven runs on liquid propane gas but can be converted to natural gas with the appropriate conversion kit.

Can I use the Festa oven indoors?

No. This oven is for outdoor use only, unless professionally installed with proper ventilation and code compliance.

How long does it take to assemble the Festa oven?

Assembly takes approximately 10–15 minutes. You'll attach 3 support feet, install the pizza peel handle, insert an AA battery into the igniter, connect the AC adapter (or install 4 AA batteries for portable use), attach the two control knobs, and place the pizza stone on the turntable.

How do I install the control knobs on the Festa oven?

When facing the front of the oven, install the knob labeled "Bot" (bottom burner) on the left side, and the knob labeled "Top" (top burner) on the right side.

How do I connect the AC adapter to the Festa oven?

Insert the power adapter by aligning the electric prongs on the output connector with the holes on the oven's input port. Apply gentle pressure to fully connect the DC plug, then turn the plug clockwise to secure it to the oven.

What are the clearance requirements for the Festa oven?

Minimum clearances: 36 inches from the sides, 36 inches from the front and back. The oven must be placed in a well-ventilated outdoor area, open on at least two sides. Never use the oven indoors, in a garage, under a porch roof, in a shed, or any enclosed space.

What propane cylinder should I use with the Festa oven?

Use only a standard 20 lb propane cylinder equipped with an OPD (Overfill Protection Device) and a QCC1 connection type. The cylinder must be stored outdoors, upright, and in a well-ventilated area. Never expose it to heat above 120°F. Always turn off the propane supply when the oven is not in use. If storing the oven indoors, detach and leave the cylinder outdoors.

How do I check for gas leaks on the Festa oven?

Use a soapy water solution on all gas connections. Apply the solution and look for bubbles — bubbles indicate a leak. Never test with a flame. Check for leaks every time you disconnect and reconnect a gas fitting. If you smell gas at any time, immediately shut off the valve, move away from the oven, and ventilate the area.

How do I install the support feet?

Turn the oven upside down on a padded surface and use the supplied screws to attach the four support feet to the base of the oven.

Can I operate the Festa oven in windy conditions?

No. Do not operate the oven in high winds as flames may escape or blow out, creating a safety hazard. Move the oven to a sheltered location or wait for calmer conditions.

What safety precautions should I follow with the Festa oven?

Keep children and pets away, avoid flammable materials nearby, use heat-resistant gloves when handling hot components, never leave the oven unattended while lit, and always operate outdoors with proper clearance.

Can I cool the Festa oven with water?

No. Applying water to a hot oven can cause burns or damage the oven components. Always allow the oven to cool naturally after use.

What is the risk of carbon monoxide with the Festa oven?

Using the oven indoors or in enclosed spaces can cause dangerous carbon monoxide buildup. The Festa oven is for outdoor use only — always operate in a well-ventilated area.

    04.

    Care & Maintenance

Is the Festa oven easy to clean?

    Yes. After cooling:

    • Remove and clean the stone with a wire brush
    • Remove the stone wheel for easy access to vacuum or wipe the firebox

Can I leave the Festa oven outside year-round?

Yes, but we don't recommend it. Storing the oven indoors will lengthen its life. Leaving it outdoors may shorten its life and void the warranty. If storing outdoors, we recommend using a Festa weatherproof cover, sold separately.

How do I clean the interior of the Festa oven?

After the oven has completely cooled:

    1. Remove the pizza stone and turntable
    2. Use a shop vacuum or hand vacuum to clean out crumbs and debris from the bottom
    3. Wipe down exterior surfaces with a damp cloth — avoid abrasive cleaners

How do I clean the burner assembly?

Remove the pizza stone and turntable for access. Inspect the burner for clogs, soot, grease buildup, or rust. Check that the flame ports (small holes along the burner tube) are clear and not blocked. Clean the igniter tip by wiping with a dry cloth to remove soot or carbon buildup. If corroded, gently scrub with fine-grit sandpaper. Visit festapizzaco.com/support for a step-by-step video tutorial.

How do I season the pizza screen?

    1. Wash and dry — Gently wash with warm water and mild soap, rinse, and dry completely
    2. Apply oil — Use a high-smoke-point oil (canola, vegetable, or grapeseed) and apply a thin, even coating to both sides with a silicone brush or paper towel
    3. Bake — Preheat oven to 450–500°F, place the screen on the rack for 30–45 minutes until it darkens slightly, then let it cool inside the oven
    4. Repeat — For improved non-stick performance, repeat the process 2–3 times. The screen will naturally darken and become more non-stick with continued use.

How should I store my Festa oven long-term or during winter?

Whenever possible, store the oven indoors or in a dry, sheltered area. For winter or long-term storage, disconnect and store propane cylinders safely outdoors. Use a fitted Festa weatherproof cover for outdoor protection (available at festapizzaco.com/accessories). Keep the oven out of reach of children.

Why should I season the pizza screen?

Seasoning prevents pizza dough from sticking during baking and improves the non-stick surface over time, giving you better results and easier cleanup.

What oil should I use to season the pizza screen?

Use high-smoke point oil such as canola, vegetable, or grape seed oil. Apply a thin layer and bake at 450°F for about 30 minutes.

How should I clean the oven exterior?

Wipe down with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish.
